Stitched Places

Free-motion Machine Embroidery

A fantastic NEW course in which you will learn how to use a sewing machine in free-motion mode, combined with simple painting skills to create beautiful images of places, landscapes or scenes. With embroidery hoop to KEEP and display your work.

This is a lovely session, which will allow you to explore painting onto fabric with stitch. You will explore images of places - woodlands, seascapes, landscapes, building, skylines - to create stitched visuals. Even if you have little or no sewing experience, this is such a different way to use a machine (dropping the 'feed dogs' and 'drawing with the sewing machine) that it doesn't matter if you haven't done any/much sewing before. Once you have stitched your image, you will add colour to fabric using water-based paints.

All materials and equipment are provided.

Sewing machines are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own machine (if using your own machine, it must have the function to 'drop the feed dogs' and come with an appropriate darning/free-motion foot. Please let us know at the time of booking if this is the case). Machines must be in good working order and have a recent PAT test certificate.

Holly will provide you with support and guidance throughout – even if you have never done anything like this before. Holly has been teaching for over 15 years and can help you to create an artwork to be proud of. Session run by Thread and Press CIC, a Community Interest Company.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. For daytime courses, please bring your own lunch.

This is an adult course. No experience required.

Thread and Press CIC are a Community Interest Company based in the East Riding of Yorkshire, providing arts workshops, classes and projects for adults and children. Established by two experienced art teachers, we have been operating since 2020, providing many workshops and sessions across East Riding and surrounding counties.
