Screen Printing Fabrics

Screen printing is an exciting technique which offers a huge variety of creative possibilities. Take a drawing, illustration or photograph and print your image onto a variety of fabrics!

This exciting course allows you to print your own fabrics in one day! Attend a short online live session (or watch a recorded video if you prefer) to show you how to prepare your artwork prior to the sessions. This work is then emailed or posted to us and we will have your screen and artwork ready to use in your session and print an array of fabrics.

How it works:

Session 1: Join in a short live one-to-one session to learn how to prepare images for your screen (or watch the 20 min recorded session if you prefer). Send this artwork to us by email or post within 7 days of the course start date.

If you don't feel confident creating your own artwork, we can help do this for you!

Session 2: Join us at the venue and we will bring your images on a screen ready to print! During the session you will be shown the principles of screen-printing, how to print a single image, dying fabrics, how to mask your screen, mixing pigments, using decolourant, layering and repeats and cleaning/maintaining your screen.

At the end of the session, you have the option to buy your screen, squeegee and some inks if you want to continue at home, for a small additional fee (entirely optional, you can decide on the day, bring your own jars to fill)

You will leave with beautiful printed fabrics to frame or use for sewing projects.

We provide fabrics, screens, inks and all equipment needed for this day session.

You will need (for drawing):

Fineliner pen (black)

Pencil

Premium tracing paper

Paper

We can supply the above in a pack for £5.

No prior experience is needed, just enthusiasm.

Once you have booked we will send you details of how to access the first live online session and/or the recording. Please contact us for more detailed information.

Printmaking

LINO PRINTING

NOW RUNNING IN-PERSON*: covers multiple techniques, including relief and intaglio printing. These processes allow you to craft your own print surface. Relief printing using lino involves the removal of a print surface to print with the remaining area. Our BEGINNERS SESSION will focus on lino printing to create a one-colour print and a reduction print block. These techniques are a fantastic introduction to the world of printmaking. Extremely good fun and easy to replicate at home. Our INTERMEDIATE session will focus on a reduction print to create a two or three colour block print.

We provide materials to use, you keep your lino block and prints. If you wish to purchase basic equipment/inks after the session this can be arranged.

No prior experience required for the beginners course.

Session plan (Beginners):

Creating linear imagery

Carving your lino block

Printing your first prints onto paper and fabric

DRY-POINT ETCHING

Dry-point etching is a wonderful intaglio printing technique that yields beautiful results. Using a special tool, you carve into a surface and then ink your block to print using a press. Great for showing wonderful linear detail. Make as many prints as you can manage in the time you have got! All materials and equipment provided. Suitable for beginners.
