Focus on: NEEDLE-FELTING AND FREE-MOTION MACHINE EMBROIDERY

There are so many wonderful things I could say and show you from this workshop. It combines two highly-effective textile techniques - in one day! We have run many of these sessions now and the results are just beautiful. It provides a soft tactile surface with gentle definition.
Here's how it works:
Needle Felting into Fabric - this is how the workshop begins. If you have heard of needle-felting but know little about it, many examples that you find will be 3D needle felted - absolutely stunning but they can take a while to master and complete. Needle-felting into fabric has many favourable qualities including:
It is relatively quick - you can get results in a few hours rather than many
It is quite an affordable hobby as far as felt goes - you use far, far less fibres that wet felting
It is a little less 'finger stabby'. Stabs and puncture wounds are common in 3D felting, often artists wear a sort of gauntlet. However, 2D needle felting works into a sponge surface, and is far easier to control - with far less chance of an injury.
You can create a template drawing onto fabric first - and that is exactly how we begin!
Once you have chosen an image to use (and you can use our templates or bring your own photos/drawings) you will transfer this to fabric and then begin needle-felting. We provide a huge range of colours ot choose from and you can choose from free-choice, guidance as much as you need it, or use out instruction guides with step-by-step instructions of colours and where to add them. Holly (That's me, hi!) will demonstrate throughout and show you each stage.

After a short lunch break it's time to add the free-motion machine embroidery. As ever with our workshops you do not need ANY prior experience. The basics of threading, tension and technique are always shown to you and I can help as much as you need. Even if you haven't sewn before it DOES NOT MATTER. The way you move the fabric around the machine with free-motion is completely different to normal sewing. We have attendees who have never even used a sewing machine before.
Once your machine is set up you will add your embroidery. You can add as much or as little as you want - and you can either choose your own colours or use our step-by-step guidance notes.

And at the end of the session you'll be amazed at what you've achieved. The free-motion gives a gentle quilted appearance to the felt and the colours look just stunning.
